Kronplatz and Ahrntal – a winter wonderland for snow junkies

A magical winter in South Tyrol

Generous snow coverage from December all the way through to Easter. Too good to be true? No… just too good to miss! With its fabulous white expanses, the Ahrntal and Kronplatz area is the perfect destination if you are dreaming of spending a winter holiday skiing, tobogganing, cross-country skiing or snowshoe hiking. From sporty pistes to peaceful paths in the snow and family-friendly walks, the snow is always abundant and so are the options to enjoy it!

Twice the fun

A wealth of slopes and a jaw-dropping view – at Zum Schlössl you can take your pick from two ski resorts, both in our vicinity: Kronplatz near Bruneck (11 km away) and Skiworld Ahrntal, which includes the Klausberg (8 km away) and Speikboden (18 km away) ski resorts. Whether you’re a leisure skier, a carving pro or a family with snow-mad children, you’re sure to find the right ski experience for you!

The Kronplatz ski resort

Situated near Bruneck, Kronplatz is regarded by many as South Tyrol’s number one ski resort. And indeed, with 120 kilometres of slopes for everyone from beginners to seasoned skiers, modern lift facilities and a breath-taking view of the Dolomites, the Kronplatz ski experience is in a league of its own. You can reach the lift valley terminal using the free ski bus service.

Skiworld Ahrntal

Especially suited to families, the Skiworld Ahrntal ski resort encompasses the ski areas of Klausberg in the Ahrntal valley and Speikboden in Sand in Taufers, as well as the child-friendly slopes in Weißenbach and Rein in Taufers. There are ski kindergartens in the resort that guarantee a great day out in the snow for children. You can access all this with just a single lift pass, and there’s a free ski bus that takes you directly to the valley terminal.

A race to the bottom

How about a toboggan ride? There are many natural toboggan runs in the Ahrntal valley, and one of them is a stone’s throw from our aparthotel. If you don’t fancy walking uphill to the starting point, you can always let the cable car transport you effortlessly to the runs in the Speikboden and Klausberg ski areas. If you’re holidaying with your family, make time to visit the Tamarix Family Park in Mühlwald and let your children go crazy with the toboggan, bob and tubing tyres.

Cross-country skiing for connoisseurs

Explore dreamlike mountain scenery on snow-guaranteed trails! The high-altitude cross-country ski trails in Rein in Taufers, Kasern, Weißenbach and Mühlwald offer a first-class experience, and so do the trails in the Kronplatz ski resort. If you fancy trying your hand at biathlon, head to the new biathlon centre in Rein and get a taster course under professional guidance.

Snowshoeing into a dream

Enjoy the silence and crisp mountain air as you crunch your way through a glistening carpet of snow. A snowshoe hike is a great way to immerse yourself in the charm of wintry nature. Both the Ahrntal valley and the Kronplatz resort offer a variety of itineraries, with scenery ranging from picture-postcard Alpine pastures to lonely, panoramic peaks.

Christmas time in South Tyrol

Forget the rush of shopping centres and rediscover the magical feeling of Christmas! In our area, December is Tauferer Advent time – follow the softly lit ZauberWaldWeg path in the wood to the Reinbach waterfalls and you’ll be amazed. In Bruneck, the traditional Christmas market is a triumph of seasonal scents, colours and flavours, with the opportunity to find the perfect, original souvenir and decorations. For a peek into the Tyrolean tradition of nativity scenes, visit the Marantha nativity scene museum in Luttach.

Après-ski

When the ski slopes close their gates, après-ski fun time begins! The Kronplatz and Skiworld Ahrntal resorts offer plenty of entertainment, with open-air bars, Alpine huts and more serving drinks and a side of party music. Are you game?
